LESSENING POVERTY

SERVICES

THis training is going to mainly be handled as a learning by doing type of training blended with few classrooms (theory). As shown within the Gantt Chart, There is a provision for 4 classes and at first a lot of 50 participants will be taught at a time, learning How to use all farming tools. Once they have finished within a month, lot one now moves to class 2 of modern farming methods while we put a new lot in class 3. At this point 100 participants are learning at the same time. Once lot 1 has finished they move to class 3, lot 2 moves to class 2 and a new lot (lot 3) comes into class 1. At this point 150 participants are all learning. After another one month, Lot 1 will move to class 4, lot 2 to class 3, lot 3 to class 2 and another lot (lot 4) into class 1. At this point all classes are occupied with 200 participants. Brief tests will be taken at each stage to determine who will receive seeds and livestock quicker at the end of the training.
1
Provide training services on modern farming methods:
There will be several trainings and workshops within the second month of the project after its commencement. This is to train chosen participants on modern farming including using natural fertilizers and other methods that will reserve the climate and protect the soil, and how to use the machinery going to be lent to them from time to time.
2
Providing the community with water:
A bore-hole is to be constructed and the end goal is to provide clean water to the Kayung community.
3
Provide seeds:
15 kgs of either different seeds will be distributed to the women within the registered 200 families and mentored through their first production.
4
Plough / clear land ready for farming:
Akasi Farm Initiative plans to acquire machinery that will be readily available for the beneficiaries to borrow and return from time to time. This machine will be maintained by AFI.
5
Provide veterinary services for the livestock:
We have qualified veterinary doctors that will offer this service to the community when required.
6
Provide Capital for those without land to lease out land for farming:
Akasi Farm Initiative has been helping the people that approach them with their own capital to lease a designated farm area. We realized that these were very few because most of them had the interest but lacked capital.
7
Provide Natural resources like manure, fertilizers and pesticide for the agricultural produce:
This is a service that will be readily available and easy to execute because the farming seasons are well known and therefore pesticides will be supplied to all farms at the same times during the season.
8
Provide Capital for those without land to lease out land for farming:
Providing the community with a local and international market for their produce: We plan to supply the markets in Kayunga district, and the 5 districts that are surrounding it. The international market will then be supplied once these are saturated.
