BUSINESS HISTORY

Worldwide especially in developing countries like Uganda, the demand for food is growing. Due to unequal income distribution, hunger is still a widespread problem that we have been trying to fight. With the SDG guidelines, AFI would like to be able to expand and help farmers to feed the community while reserving resources for the future generations. The approach was originally 7 conceived to agriculturally empower women because they are the backbone of development of rural and national economy due to the fact that they are required to secure food for their families. This is not made any easier because they have unequal access to land and resources to achieve production. As seen from our objectives, AFI believes that with access to financial resources, training and the right technology, women can alter food production and consumption creating a well fed country and eventually the world. Immense effort have been expended to make AFI what it is today. This idea began and was registered in 2012 as a community based organisation helping the kayunga community by guiding farmers through what months, season in which they can highly reap what had been sowed. We also provide guidance which cross breeds would grow best in the Ugandan climate and what modern methods were to be used. All these are being done voluntarily and on a small scale.

Having served this community for 7 years, we realised that there are some changes and extension systems in the agricultural sector. These changes led to an agricultural shift on how services are provided in rural areas. Some of these changes include: in the last decade, knowledge, information and technologies transformed the capacity for farmers enabling them to farm on a large scale, markets, not production drive agricultural developments. The shifts in the agricultural sector are some of the few things that we would like to educate the community about so that they remain relevant in the market and therefore be able to compete and supply several markets.
